Photos: JASON OXENHAM It's time to look back at 2010 and what better way to do it than through the lens of a professional photographer? Jason Oxenham captured images of events big and small for the Central Leader and Fairfax and has put together a multimedia slideshow of his most memorable moments. It was a hard year, it was a good year. Looking back on my work for Sub- urban Newspapers and the Fairfax group with my face jammed up against the back of the camera, the view through the viewfinder offered up a year of con- trasting experiences. Witnessing pain, joy, elation and disappoint- ment -- and that was just in the newsroom. I've been lucky to meet some inspirational people, see some amazing things. It's job I know I am lucky to have and long may that continue. The highlight of the work year for me was having the opportunity to fly with the air force in a Hercules to the remote Cook Islands island of Penrhyn where they were delivering aid relief to victims of cyclone Pat, the low point was witnessing the Auckland rugby team lose to Wai- kato at Eden Park by conceding a try after the final hooter, twice,'' Mr Oxenham says. I hope you enjoy see- ing a selection of my work for this year.'' Go to www.central leader.co.nz to see the slideshow. Her mother Tracy relates what happened: Two months ago I was driving along the motor- way with Phoebe and my son, they were looking at signs on the side of the road and we discovered Phoebe had a problem with her eyes. We went to the optometrist and found that both of her eyes could see only 6/12. As a parent, I was shocked and really worried for Phoebe, I wondered about laser surgery for her but found out that she was nowhere near old enough, I was also not happy that she would have to wear glasses. At this time I found out about EyeRight Vision Recovery. After testing at EyeRight, we knew that Phoebe had amblyopia (weak and blurry vision). According to traditional optometry theory amblyopia is diffi- cult to do anything about, but when Phoebe finished her first train- ing session with Eye- Right her eyesight reached 6/6 unbelievably. My husband and I were so excited, although still a little skeptical. After the second training session she was seeing to 6/4.5 and after the fourth she was close to 6/3 on the eye chart. This was over a period of two weeks, she then had a break for one week. When she returned her eyesight was still at 6/3 and had not decre- ased. The trainer at EyeRight told us she needed to complete train- ing for consolidation so that her eyes would be fully recovered and per- manently stable. My husband and I are very happy. This kind of training programme is really good news for young people with amblyopia eyesight problems. Our family are so appreciative of EyeRight Vision Recovery and that Phoebe can now see the world clearly.''
