Photo: JASON OXENHAM By CARLY TAWHIAO The Gifted Kids Programme based at Waikowhai Intermedi- ate School has received an early Christmas gift. The Mt Roskill satellite unit, which brings in gifted pupils throughout central and south Auckland, was granted $2500 from ANZ New Zealand and its Staff Foundation. The company matches every dollar donated by staff and has quietly gone about giving away more than $1.7 million to about 500 community organisations in New Zealand since 2000. Mt Roskill branch manager Brenda Jones helped the gifted kids unit put forward its appli- cation for field trip funding and says the result is awesome. Anything to do with kids is always a good thing. I was thrilled to be able to take the request to the Staff Foundation and even more delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for $2500. The Gifted Kids Programme is a nationwide educational organisation offering a full day of extend learning for pupils from years 2 to 8 every week. Central Auckland primary schools Wesley, Epsom Normal, Cornwall Park, Hay Park and Good Shepherd feed into the class. Chief executive Deb Clark says the support from ANZ for the work it does is much appreciated. We totally rely on donations and this generous gift from the ANZ Staff Foundation couldn t come at a better time, she says. The grant will allow learning experiences outside the class- room. With many of the chil- dren never having travelled far a we believe this will be of great benefit to them. Excursions to art galleries, museums and outdoor pursuit centres can now be perma- nently pencilled in on next year s calendar. ANZ s Staff Foundation allocates funds to organisations, nominated by staff members, three times a year. Visit www.anz.co.nz for information.
