Photo: JASON OXENHAM By HANNAH SPYKSMA If you go down to West- ern Springs Park on Sunday you're in for a big surprise. The annual Teddy Bears' Picnic is happening for the first time at its new location. Previously held at Auckland Domain, the event is a chance for kids and parents alike to pic- nic and play in the sun while enjoying entertain- ment. Giant teddy bears, magic fairies and face painters are just some of the delights on offer for the family day out. Although hesitant about the move to West- ern Springs, organisers say the venue will be more intimate for famil- ies. It's an ideal location as it is well known, easy to access and is a family friendly environment,'' event manager Sandra Beacham says. Ms Beacham says all aspects of the location are covered, with life- guards on hand at the lakeside and free sun- block provided through- out the day. As well as the practi- cal side of things, the event has managed to secure favourite movie stars Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, who are in the country to promote their upcoming film. Two massive teddy bears are also going to be given away and a lunch- time parade around the park will give children a chance to show off their favourite bears. In its 28th year, the event is the longest run- ning of its kind in the country. Money from the day will go towards the char- ity KidsCan. The Teddy Bears' Pic- nic is an iconic Auckland event which children of all ages enjoy,'' spokes- woman Jan Clark says.
