Gradshow3 Cracker night for burglars In the midst of Guy Fawkes frivolities on November 5 a high num- ber of burglaries un- folded across Auckland. Avondale police patrol commander for the west- ern area Ross Endicott- Davies says there were at least 18 burglaries, higher than usual. With the guise of bangs and everything -- it may have been a con- tributing factor but we cannot say for sure,'' he says. We are looking at these and will investi- gate and follow up.'' He says the burglaries took place throughout the day and into the evening with Mt Roskill and Grey Lynn among the worst hit areas. People should be mindful of laptops and small electronic items like xboxes, Play- Stations, iPods and flat- screen televisions,'' Mr Endicott-Davies says. Aspiring to succeed People with arthritis and multiple sclerosis now have the opportunity to attend a specially designed Outward Bound course. Both Arthritis New Zealand and the Mul- tiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand are each offering two scholarships to attend Aspire -- a low- impact version of Out- ward Bound's courses. Outward Bound chief executive Trevor Taylor recently attended the course after undergoing a knee transplant. For years I'd wanted to take part in an Out- ward Bound course but was restricted after the operation. The introduction of the Aspire course changed all that and after nine years at the helm of Outward Bound I was finally able to fully immerse myself in one of our courses.'' The course includes renowned Outward Bound activities like sailing, kayaking and rock climbing, but has been adjusted to cater for people with an injury or medical issue. Participants will also be encouraged to step outside their comfort zones mentally so that they can gain an under- standing of their own strengths,'' Mr Taylor says. Applications close on November 26, while the course takes place from February 13 to 20. Visit www.outward bound.co.nz/aspire or call 0800-688-927 to find out more.
