Finalist, left: Mt Eden environmental asset manager Anna Robak is one of three finalists in the 2010 New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards' Young Engineer of the Year competition. The Young Engineer of the Year is the most hotly contested title in the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards' stable. Originally from Canada, Anna now works for engineering consultancy Opus and was their Young Achiever of the Year in 2008. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies to evaluate the economic, environmental and social costs and benefits of water supply systems. Water wonders: Matt Small of Epsom and Thomas Jones from Sandringham were given individual honours when their under-18 Waitakere Gold waterpolo team lived up to its name by successfully defending its national title at the under-18 waterpolo nationals held in September. Matt was awarded the most valued player and Thomas won an outstanding player award.
