Being one church in two Auck- land locations brings a whole new dynamic as we serve the wider community of Auckland,'' says Senior Pastor Peter Mortlock. Hundreds of people have attended services at City Impact Church Mt Wellington's first few weeks. Youth and children's church are well underway, and weekend services are held Saturdays 6pm and Sundays at 10am and 6pm. The well known North Shore church was pioneered by Senior Pastors Peter and Bev Mortlock and their family in 1982. Through their vision and deter- mination the congregation has grown to over 3500 with other churches being established both nationally and internationally, including recently in Mount Wel- lington. City Impact Church is a con- temporary and vibrant generational church with a strong focus on the power of the Gospel to bring improvement to the lives of individuals, our city and our nation. Through the church's Com- munity Impact Days over 18,000 man hours have been invested in the community since 2008, as volunteers dedicate several Saturdays per year to serve other North Shore community groups. They make-over homes and lend a helping hand; cleaning, painting and gardening, as well as provid- ing food and clothing to those in need. City Impact's TV programme Impact for Life (TV3 at 6am on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Prime at 9am on Sundays), profiles ordi- nary people living out their faith bringing a message. T'ai chi champs win gold medals By SCOTT MORGAN Double success: David Wong and Diana Lau won gold medals at the recent Oceania T'ai Chi Championships. Photo: JASON OXENHAM It was a golden week for the New Zealand t'ai chi team at the Oceania Championships in Sydney last month. Greenlane resident Diana Lau returned home with two gold medals and a silver from the competition, while fellow team member David Wong, of Epsom picked up one gold and two silvers. It was quite challenging. There were people from China and Australia,'' Lau says. T'ai chi is a good way to improve your body, health and mind for all ages.'' Overall the six-member team picked up 13 medals in a var- iety of areas including the tra- ditional form and other categories where competitors used swords and staffs. The Oceania champs are the continuation of a warm-up for the 2012 World Championships, also set to be held somewhere in Australia. It keeps up your skill level, it's good for balance and movement. I won three golds and one silver at last year's nationals,'' Lau says. Wong says it was hard to pre- dict whether he would pick up any medals before the tourna- ment. We didn't know how the Australians would place. I think we're all genuinely surprised at how well we did.''
