Jenny's YBe Fashion Design Gallery and the Pt Chevalier community came together to create this collaborative inaugural event. Check it out: Pak'nSave Royal Oak checkout operator Vivi Veneracion has been crowned Auckland central's top supermarket checkout operator after winning the Foodstuffs Checker of the Year Auckland central regional finals at Hawkins Theatre. More than 180 checkout operators from local New World, Pak'nSave, Four Square and Gilmours stores pitted their frontline customer service skills against one another in a competitive checkout battle in front of a live audience. Meet Mr Hide: Associate Education Minister Rodney Hide visited the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre in Grey Lynn. Jethro Taylor, 3, who attends the centre each week for music therapy, was quite taken with the minister when he and his dad Nick Taylor were introduced. Quake aid: The St Cuthberts College community of parents, students and staff has responded rapidly to the Christchurch earthquake in a number of practical ways. Air New Zealand generously transported the packages free of charge. Year 10 St Cuthberts student Adriana Hitch helped bake Anzac biscuits to send to Aranui Primary School. Free car: Sarah Frost received the car keys for a brand new Suzuki Swift from Mad Butcher Onehunga store owner Peter Martin. Sarah won the car by purchasing a pack of Tegel chicken in a national competition in New Zealand's largest independent retail meat chain. In September a variety of products in each store had a special label attached and all customers in the 37 stores nationally that purchased one of them went into a draw to win a new car. Sarah won her car in the fourth week of the competition and was blown away by the prize. Sacrifice: Children from The Learning Centre in Ponsonby are doing their part to help other youngsters affected by the Canterbury earthquake. About 50 of the preschoolers as well as parents and staff have gone without treats to collect money to donate. A total of $227 was raised for the Westpac Canterbury Care Fund and was given to Gumdrops Early Childhood Centre in Christchurch. From left: Elisa Joint-Rotondo, 4, Maia Bennett, 4, Joaquin Martinez, 4, Jamie Thomann 3, Indianna MacKenzie, 4, and Isabella Houston, 4, sit with Jo Avenell after donating money from the preschool to the Canterbury earthquake.
